ICS Personal Project Guide

Overview of the ICS Personal Project Process

ATL Skills@Product

Students may use the following prompts/questions to help them write for this strand:

  • Which ATL skills did you use for your PP learning product? 

  • Which ATL skill did you find most challenging? Explain.

  • How did your research help you to create your product?

  • Give evidence of an instance where you used social skills to resolve a problem, for which you might have had to communicate with relevant people-topic experts and resource persons.

  • Which ATL skill did you develop the most during the course of your PP journey? Give examples to show how you developed this particular ATL skill. 

Creating a Product/Outcome using ATL Skills

While creating their products/outcomes, students must consider the following factors: 

  • Project goal
  • Global context [optional]
  • Project criteria developed in the planning stage
  • Research objectives

You will create your product and while doing so record your thinking in your Process Journal:

  • Describe the product/outcome that you are creating
  • As you make the product/outcome...how is it meeting the Goal that you developed?
  • How is it reflecting the Global Context you chose? [Optional]
  • How is it meeting your Criteria- are you needing to make changes? Why? How?

Note: 

  • The IB recommends spending 25 hours on your Personal project
  • Spending a huge amount of time creating a product does not guarantee you a high mark

Types of Products or Outcomes

You must produce a final product or outcome in response to your Project Goal (you may add an MYP Global Context and connect it to your Project Goals)The following are examples:

  • original work of art
  • a model
  • a business plan
  • a campaign
  • a blueprint or architectural drawing
  • a research essay
  • a course of study
  • a debate
  • a film or some other work
  • a survey
  • informational talk
  • presentation with slides
  • an awareness campaign
  • podcast
  • blog, website
  • performance

To measure the quality of the product:

  • decide what makes a high-quality product
  • what has creating the product taught you about the global context?
  • include checklists, and rubrics
  • document the criteria in your process journal
  • how has the product achieved your goal(s)?
