ICS Personal Project Guide

Overview of the ICS Personal Project Process

Defining a goal

The project consists of two interrelated parts:

i) a learning goal (what the student wants to learn)

  • An example of starting with a learning goal to guide the creation of the project: - I want to learn about fitness by training for a half-marathon.

ii) a product (what the student wants to create).

  • An example of starting with a product to guide the creation of the project: - I want to create a series of workout videos to learn more about filming and editing videos.

A clear, challenging yet do-able goal will allow you to successfully complete this project.  Aim to create an ISMART goal!

I Inspired: What is inspirational? What drives you?  Where did your idea come from?
S Specific: clearly outline what you want to achieve.
M Measurable: how will you know when you have achieved your goal?  When do you know to stop?
A Attainable: make sure it is possible to finish/complete what you started.
R Relevant: everything in the goal must be relevant, especially the Global Context.
T Timely: can you finish in the time given?  Is it challenging enough?

In addition, use this formula to help define your goal:

I will research ________________________________________(what skills, facts or data will you need?)

in order to make/produce ____________________________(what is the final product/outcome?)

for____________________________________________________(who is your target audience?)
