International School Library Month 2019

Events and activities for October 2019

Activities

Time to celebrate Libraries!

The International Association of School Librarianship has named October as “International School Library Month.”  Many international schools around the world celebrate their libraries and all the resources they have to offer. As ICS focuses on the importance of reading independently and as a family both in home learning and at school, our library can help families find the resources they need for their learning and reading enjoyment- definitely a reason to celebrate!

This year’s theme is:

“Let's Imagine!”

With this theme in mind, the ICS Primary Library is offering the following activities:

Design a Library Poster!

Students are invited to design a Library poster this illustrates this year’s theme ‘Let's Imagine.’ The posters will be judged by a panel of “Library Experts.” The winning design will then serve as the Primary Library Logo for the entire school year! The poster may be designed using any medium, but cannot be larger in size than A3. All entries must be submitted to the Primary Library no later than Wednesday, October 30th.

Name That Reader!  Can you guess who is reading what?

Extra Book Checkout!

All month, students and families are invited to check out an additional book from the Library if they wish!

Book Character Day!

What better way to celebrate the Library, than dressing up as a favorite character from a book!

On Friday, October 25, all students are invited to come to school dressed as a book character. The Library will “come to life” with a parade of characters from some of our favorite stories during morning recess. All participating students are invited to come to the Library with the book their character is from to get their photo taken.

Golden Cowbell Book Award!

Launched in October, the Golden Cowbell Book Award was created by the SGIS (Swiss Group of International Schools) Librarians as a means of promoting great literature and cross cultural ties within the international school community of Switzerland.
